A worker at a psychiatric unit in Devon has been arrested on suspicion of raping a female patient.
The alleged attack is said to have taken place at the Glenbourne psychiatric unit in Plymouth last month.
Devon and Cornwall police said a 50-year-old man from Plymouth had been questioned and released on bail.
Glenbourne is an acute hospital for people aged 18-65 who cannot be supported at home. Patients’ illnesses can include severe depression, manic phases of an illness or distressing psychotic symptoms.
The unit has 46 beds and is run by Plymouth Community Healthcare, which declined to comment on the arrest.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the unit was doing well when it last inspected. It said: “Patients we spoke with who were staying at the Glenbourne unit said that their care and welfare needs were being well met.” Comments from patients included:“The staff are exemplary. I rely on them to keep me safe.”
