PSV boss delivers fresh twist in Steven Bergwijn to Tottenham transfer

Tottenham's attempts to sign Dutch international Steven Bergwijn have been dealt a potential setback, after PSV interim manager Ernest Faber confirmed that Spurs have not yet been given permission to meet with the player.

Bergwijn has been heavily linked with a move to north London, and it has been reported by The Mirror that Tottenham have made a bid of around £30million for the left winger.

The 22-year-old was not involved as the Eredivisie side faced FC Twente today as speculation mounted over his future.

But amid reports that he has travelled to London to discuss a deal with Tottenham, Faber has confirmed that he has done so without permission from PSV.

Everything you need to know about the January transfer window

Speaking after PSV's draw with FC Twente in the Eredivisie, Faber said that Bergwijn had told him this morning that he was not playing in the game, and that he has travelled to London without the club's permission.

He said: "That boy chooses a different route. You can. I have to choose PSV."

Faber's comments suggest that a deal could still be done though, with the PSV interim manager not impressed with the player's actions.

Meanwhile, Bergwijn's team-mate Denzel Dumfries has all but confirmed that the 22-year-old will be joining Tottenham.
