PSNI urges public to 'report anything that looks out of place immediately' after explosive device warning

The PSNI has told the public to "report anything that looks out of place immediately" after they received information over an explosive device.

Police said they been made aware that a device was left in the area of Glencam Road in Omagh, Co Tyrone.

They said that it may have been a hoax, however, have urged caution.

It was reported at around midday and police have not located a device.

Inspector Fallis said: “Information was received by police shortly after midday today (Thursday February 6) that an explosive device had been left in the area of Glencam Road.

"Throughout the course of the afternoon we have conducted a number of enquiries to locate this item but nothing has been found.

"I believe therefore, that the report we received was a hoax, but in order to ensure the safety of everyone in the area I would ask anyone who should notice anything that seems out of place, or in any way suspicious, to keep away from the object and to contact police immediately on 999."

The warning comes after a suspicious object was found on the Ballygawley Road in Dungannon.

The security alert has since ended.

The object was declared nothing untoward and the road has now re-opened.

A PSNI spokesman said: "“ATO were tasked to the scene and a section of the Ballygawley Road was closed as the object was examined.

“The man remains in police custody assisting with their enquiries.”
