PSNI slam "thoughtless and dangerous behaviour" after West Belfast park set on fire

Youths are believed to have set a play park in West Belfast on fire.

Emergency services, including police officers and firefighters, attended the incident on the Whiterock Road late on Wednesday night.

Police have said the "dangerous behaviour" happened at a park that is used by the whole community.

In an appeal for information, a PSNI spokesperson said: "Sadly, West Belfast Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Northern Ireland Fire service are currently [Wednesday] dealing with a fire set by youths at the play park on the Whiterock Road near the leisure centre.

(PSNI)

"Totally unnecessary, thoughtless and dangerous behaviour.

"This park is used by the entire community. Families with children young and old attend this park to use the facilities.

"Damaging it only reduces community recreational facilities and as a result, reduces the safe areas for local children to play.

"If anyone has any information as to who is responsible for this please contact Police via the 101 service."

Information can also be provided anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
