PSNI probe after man attacked with a "bottle or knife" in West Belfast

A man attacked with a "bottle or knife" in West Belfast suffered serious injuries to his head, it has emerged.

The incident happened close to the Springfield Court/Avenue area shortly before 8pm on February 12.

Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital where he received stitches.

Detective Constable Quinn said: “It has been reported that a man was walking from Springfield Court onto Springfield Avenue when he was assaulted by an unknown male.

"Due to the nature of his injuries it is suspected that a weapon, potentially a knife or a glass bottle, was used during this assault.

"It’s believed that there were at least three or four males standing in a group in that area just before the attack.

"The victim has suffered a very nasty and serious wound above his left eye... and may require further surgery.

"Enquiries are continuing and we are appealing to anyone who witness anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 254 17/02/20."

Alternatively, details can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
