PSNI officers reunited with unresponsive tot whose life they saved

Police have been reunited with a 19-month old after saving the little girl’s life.

Darcie’s quick thinking parents brought her to Dungannon Police Station after she fell very ill at night after suffering a febrile convulsion.

Darcie's mum, who has asked not to be named, said: "We will be forever grateful."

To the officers who helped, she added they will "never know how thankful we are for saving our daughter's life".

Officers say they sought help at the town’s ambulance station during the incident on November 11 but sadly none were available.

What followed was a scramble to Craigavon Area Hospital in the back of a police car.

PSNI Mid Ulster outlined what happened on their Facebook page.

They said: “Meet Darcie, she’s a new honorary member of Mid Ulster Police.

“Darcie recently took ill at night and became unresponsive, her quick thinking [dad] gave first aid but Darcie remained unresponsive.

“[He] immediately brought her to the gates of Dungannon Station where officers started working on her.

“Other officers went across to the ambulance station but with no ambulances or paramedics available the decision was made to take her to A&E at Craigavon Area Hospital.

“Constable Gibson drove an emergency run making rapid progress whilst maintaining contact with Craigavon Area Hospital via the radio, this ensured a full medical crew was ready for their arrival.

“Meanwhile Constable McClughan continued to work on Darcie in the back of the Police car throughout the journey whilst her Mum held her, by now time was very short as Darcie was drifting in and out of consciousness and starting to turn blue,” they added.

“On arrival the crew ran Darcie straight in and were met by the waiting medical team. She was kept in [for three nights] and received further medical attention and diagnosis.

“The quick thinking and actions of officers on the night saved Darcie’s life, so they were delighted to be reunited with her yesterday in more relaxed circumstances.

“Happy Christmas Darcie!”
