PSNI investigating suspected arson attack on Lisburn Road

A fire in Belfast this morning has led to a police investigation.

Detectives are investigating a suspected arson attack at flats on the Lisburn Road in south Belfast in the early hours of this morning.

The flats were unoccupied and there have been no reports of any injuries.

Anyone with information please contact detectives at Musgrave on 101.

Firefighters were also at the scene at 1.56am and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue released a statement on the incident:

"Firefighters were called to a fire in a three storey terrace consisting of three flats. There were fires in the kitchens of two of the three flats.

"Firefighters wore breathing apparatuses and used four hose reel jets and three thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is believed to have been deliberate ignition and the incident was dealt with by 4.24am."

The road had previously been closed between Fountainville Avenue and Shaftesbury Square for several hours but was reopened as of 7am this morning.
