PSNI investigating after man has part of ear bitten off during 'altercation'

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an alleged serious assault last night.

The alleged incident occurred in Omagh, Co Tyrone, and was reported at around 8pm, police say. 

A PSNI spokesman added: "Some form of altercation took place in the Bridge Street area of the town which ended with a 48-year-old male having part of his ear bitten off.

"A 33-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody at this time.

"Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson is appealing for anyone who witnessed the altercation or who has any information which could assist officers with their enquiries to contact detectives in Omagh on 101 quoting reference 1326 20/04/19.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
