Police have found a 'homemade weapon' in a busy West Belfast park.
PSNI say the 'offensive weapon' was found in Falls Park on Tuesday, May 19, which could have "seriously hurt" young children who use the area.
Police in West Belfast posted an image of the object on social media and said: "West Belfast Neighbourhood Officers were tasked to Falls Park today due to Belfast City Council staff having found this offensive weapon within the park.
"This is an area used by the whole community, including families with young children who could have seriously hurt themselves if they had found it or fallen on it.
"This weapon has been homemade by someone and they seriously need to consider this risk taking behaviour and the effect it can have on themselves and others."
Meanwhile, police say a suspect object found in West Belfast on Sunday “did contain components which had the potential to cause serious harm”.
The discovery lead to a security alert at Falcarragh Drive.
Early on Monday, the police issued a statement saying they had attended a security alert “following a report of a suspicious object in the front garden of a house at around 11.30pm on Sunday 16th May”.
A number of nearby homes were evacuated and streets closed whilst the object was examined. The police said the object “was later declared an elaborate hoax” and that the object “has been taken for further forensic tests”.
