PSNI birthday surprise makes 'dreams come true' for boy with autism

Police officers have given one Co Antrim boy a birthday surprise he will never forget.

ln just a few days, John, who is non-verbal autistic was due to have his very first birthday party, but with the country in lockdown due to Coronavirus, his parents had to make the tough decision to cancel it.

But two officers in Newtownabbey stepped up to ensure John, who loves everything police related, would have a special birthday treat he wouldn't forget.

A PSNI Antrim and Newtownabbey spokesperson posted on Facebook: "Folks, we’ve all had to cancel big events recently, but none are bigger than a little boy’s birthday party.

A delighted John

"John, who is non-verbal autistic, was supposed to have his very first birthday party in a few days. Unfortunately, his parents had to take the very responsible decision to cancel, but no-one wants to disappoint their little boy.

"Thankfully, two officers from Newtownabbey came to the rescue. Knowing about John’s love of all things Police related, Constables Laura Wallace and John Spiers surprised him with the chance to sit in a real police car, and special party bag, filled with goodies from the Neighbourhood Team.

"All whilst making sure we all adhere to social distancing guidelines. Dreams really do come true."
