PSNI arrest two men after car hits roundabout so hard it "launched over the top"

Two men were arrested on suspicion of drink driving after the car they were in hit a roundabout so hard it "launched over the top before obliterating the signs and landing other side".

Officers say they came across the incident just after dawn on Sunday as "two [alleged] drunks were making off from this smash" in the Clonoe area, just outside Coalisland, Co Tyrone.

The two men, aged 44 and 57, were taken into police custody and have since been released pending further inquiries.

A post on Police Mid Ulster's Facebook page on Sunday read: "Another drunken smash and arrests.

"Just after dawn this morning and crews patrolling Clonoe arrested two drunks who were making off from this smash at St Patrick's.

"As with every weekend we have had multiple arrests for drink driving of individuals who have no care for the lives of others.

Police say it hit the roundabout and "launched over the top" (PSNI)

"In this case the van was going so hard it hit the roundabout (with a two foot concrete kerb) and launched over the top before obliterating the signs and landing other side.

If a vehicle had been coming from Moor Road at the time they wouldn't have stood a chance as the van would quite literally have landed into the drivers door."

A PSNI spokesperson told us on Monday: "The two men, aged 44 and 57, have been released pending further police enquiries."
