PSNI appeal after young child found "brandishing a knife" in Co Antrim

The PSNI have issued a warning over knives after a report of a child in possession of a knife in Antrim.

Officers received a report on Thursday night, July 16 about a child of 9 or 10 years old "brandishing a knife" in the Diamond area of Newtownabbey.

A PSNI spokesperson from Antrim and Newtownabbey posted the warning on Facebook.

They said: "Keep knives away from children! This is an image of a knife which was seized from a child by colleagues not that long ago.

"There are very few legal excuses for anyone having any blade in a public place and it’s hard to comprehend how or why any child would be able to carry one away from home.

"Last night we had a report of a child aged around 9 or 10 years old brandishing a knife in the area of the Diamond. If you know anything more about any of the circumstances please contact us in relation to reference number 2008 of the 16th July 2020.

"Our greatest priority is keeping this and the other children in the area safe."
