Police are appealing for witnesses and information after criminal damage was caused to a primary school in West Belfast.

Holy Evangelist, in Twinbrook, had windows smashed and school property damaged during an incident on Saturday October 9 at around 1am.

Temporary fencing was pulled down and two office windows were smashed at the front of the school.

Sergeant Burns said: “It is understood that the criminal damage occurred around 1am on Saturday October 9.

"Attempted breaking of the school’s assembly doors had also been tried.

"CCTV footage observes a man entering the school grounds at the time of the incident, of average build, with brown hair wearing a red T-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms and a black coat which was wrapped around his head.

"We are appealing for anyone who might have information or dashcam footage which may assist our investigation to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1213 10/10/21.

"A report can also be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport, or alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org."

Principal Claire Robinson shared photos of the damage to the school's Facebook page, alongside CCTV footage from Saturday night.

She added: "The school has had windows broken over night and the temporary fencing pulled down.

"This is disgusting, someone knows who did this and I personally would like to know why? We have worked so hard to give the children this outstanding school and this happens!

"If anyone knows anything please contact the police."

Sinn Féin councillor Daniel Baker was at the school on Monday morning.

Councillor Baker said: "Met with the Principal of Holy Evangelist this morning after their school was vandalised around 1am on Saturday.

"£1000’s of damage and an extra support classroom now out of action. Completely disgraceful! I would appeal to anyone with information to please come forward."
