PSNI appeal after headstone damaged in Belfast cemetery

Police are appealing for information following the report of damage being caused to a headstone in a West Belfast cemetery.

It is believed that the damage was caused to a plot in Milltown Cemetery on Falls Road sometime between 10.00am on July 14 and 10.00am on July 15.

Constable Andrews said: "I would appeal to anyone who has any information about this incident to contact police at Woodbourne on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 633 15/07/20.

"A report can also be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at  www.crimestoppers-uk.org."

Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey condemned the vandalism, urging those responsible to stop.

The West Belfast MP said: “Those involved in this attack must be unreservedly condemned.

“Many grieving families find great comfort in visiting cemeteries, they are places of peace and reflection.

“The desecration of a grave is very distressing for any family.

“Those involved in this criminality should stop this activity and allow this family to grieve in peace.”
