PSG win Ligue 1 title: Paris giants crowned French champions again

PSG claimed their eighth Ligue 1 without kicking a ball on Sunday after second-placed Lille were held to a goalless draw at Toulouse.

The Paris giants have 81 points after 32 games and cannot be caught as they lead Lille, who have played one more game, by 16 points with five games remaining.

It is the capital side's sixth top flight title in the last seven seasons, with Thomas Tuchel's side set to host AS Monaco later on Sunday in what will become a title party.

PSG are on course for a domestic double as they face Stade Rennais in the French Cup final next Saturday.

It caps an impressive end to their domestic campaign for PSG, though the Qatari-owned side were knocked out of the Champions League on away goals following a shock 3-1 home defeat to Manchester United in the round of 16.

It's the fifth time in the past six seasons that PSG have finished the season as champions, after Monaco's shock success in 2016-17 under Leonardo Jardim.

Thomas Tuchel, who replaced Unai Emery in the summer, can celebrate winning the first league title of his managerial career after a mixed spell with Borussia Dortmund.
