Romelu Lukaku believes it has been “decided” that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be named Manchester United‘s permanent manager.
Solskjaer guided United to an extraordinary comeback victory over Paris Saint-Germain away from home on Wednesday night to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
Lukaku scored twice, either side of a Juan Bernat goal, to give United hope of becoming the first team in European Cup history to overturn a 2-0 first-leg home deficit.
United were on the verge of elimination until a late penalty was awarded by VAR against Presnel Kimpembe and converted by Marcus Rashford.
The result will rank as one of the greatest European nights in the club’s storied history and surely earn caretaker Solskjaer the right to succeed Jose Mourinho on a full-time basis.
“I think it has been decided. I think he has going to get it, he should get it,” Lukaku told beIN Sports.
“If you look at the games that we played: everybody was talking I think after the first four games because we played, with all respect, against lesser opposition.
“But then when we won at Tottenham away, Chelsea away, then Arsenal in the FA Cup, now this game today. What else does he have to do?”
In a separate interview with Viasport, Lukaku said there was no uncertainty over Solskjaer’s future and that he has the full support of the dressing room.
“I know he’s going to stay, there’s no doubt about that,” he said.
“He wants to stay, the players want him to stay. We’re doing really well, we’re playing like Manchester United should play.
“He’s a young coach, he has young players as well so it’s the perfect environment to develop and hopefully win trophies in the future.”
