PSG vs Bayern Munich LIVE: Club World Cup result, latest updates and reaction

Star: Desire Doue opened the scoring for PSG - (REUTERS)

PSG vs Bayern Munich - LIVE!

Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue inspired nine-man Paris Saint-Germain to a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in Atlanta, sending the Parisians into the Club World Cup semi-finals.

An end-to-end first half in which both sides threatened to land the first blow was marred by what looked to be a serious injury to Bayern star Jamal Musiala. An update on the extent of his injury is awaited after he was replaced at the interval.

Momentum swung the way of the PSG to start the second half, but Bayern soon worked their way back into a game that began to liven up as it neared its end still locked in a stalemate.

But then came Doue to break the deadlock, the young Frenchman finding himself with the ball on the edge of the Bayern box and duly rifling home the opener.

Mere minutes had passed when the otherwise impressive William Pacho was given his marching orders for a reckless challenge, threatening to derail PSG’s charge to reach the final four. And as Bayern piled on the pressure, the Parisians were then reduced to nine men in stoppage time when Lucas Hernandez saw red for a careless elbow.

But second half sub Dembele, having earlier missed an open goal and then battered the crossbar with one effort moments prior, soon buried Bayern’s hopes of a comeback with a fine first-time finish.

It means PSG will face the winner of Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund for a place in this year’s Club World Cup final, against fellow semi-finalists Chelsea or Fluminense.

That last quarter-final kicks off shortly, and you can click here to follow it live with Standard Sport.

As for this all-action showdown, you can find our full match report here.

PSG 2-0 Bayern Munich

19:05 , Alex Dakers

90+10min: NO PENALTY!

Anthony Taylor agrees that Mendes has “played the ball onto” Muller’s head there, and overturns his original decision.

Bayern are fuming, but they’re still two goals down and heading out of this Club World Cup at the quarter-final stage.

PSG 2-0 Bayern Munich

19:04 , Alex Dakers

90+9min: Anthony Taylor heads to the monitor.

There is a high boot from Nuno Mendes, but he connects with the ball before doing so with Thomas Muller.

PSG 2-0 Bayern Munich

19:03 , Alex Dakers

90+8min: But do Bayern have a penalty now?!

It looks a little soft, but has been given on the pitch by Anthony Taylor.

VAR is checking it, of course.

GOAL! PSG 2-0 Bayern Munich

19:02 , Alex Dakers

90+6min: Ousmane Dembele makes it 2-0 to PSG!

The substitute clatters one effort off the bar following a fast break, but PSG win possession back.

Achraf Hakimi then wiggles past three Bayern defenders, pulls the ball back for Dembele and the Frenchman makes no mistake this time!

A lovely gesture from Dembele after scoring there as well, performing Diogo Jota’s signature goal celebration.

PSG 1-0 Bayern Munich

18:59 , Alex Dakers

90+3min: The resulting free-kick does nothing for Bayern, but they have a corner soon afterwards.

That’s delivered by Michael Olise, but Leon Goretzka’s effort lands on the roof of the goal.

Bayern’s time is running out as PSG’s nine men hang on...

RED CARD! PSG 1-0 Bayern Munich

18:57 , Alex Dakers

90+1min: Goodness me, PSG are down to NINE men!

Lucas Hernandez, who has only just come on, is shown a straight red card now for carelessly elbowing Raphael Guerreiro.

We might have a few more minutes added on than the prescribed six, after that.

PSG 1-0 Bayern Munich

18:55 , Alex Dakers

90min: Six minutes added on!

PSG 1-0 Bayern Munich

18:54 , Alex Dakers

87min: And in response to Pacho’s dismissal, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is taken off by Luis Enrique in favour of defender Lucas Beraldo.

A few more minutes plus added time here, but 10-man PSG are still on course for the Club World Cup semi-finals as things stands.

Do Bayern have an answer? They nearly did through Harry Kane, whose header bounces in off the post - but it’s ruled out for offside, the second disallowed goal for the Bundesliga side this afternoon.

PSG 1-0 Bayern Munich

18:50 , Alex Dakers

83min: Just before that red card, Desire Doue was taken off alongside Fabian Ruiz, with Lucas Hernandez and Warren Zaire-Emery coming on for PSG.

For Bayern, meanwhile, Thomas Muller and Goretzka replaced Aleksandar Pavlovic and Kingsley Coman.

RED CARD! PSG 1-0 Bayern Munich

18:48 , Alex Dakers

81min: But now PSG are down to 10 men!

A late, high challenge from William Pacho, who has been otherwise excellent throughout this tournament, on Leon Goretzka sees the Ecuadorian centre-back given his marching orders.

That could make these closing stages even more interesting...

GOAL! PSG 1-0 Bayern Munich

18:44 , Alex Dakers

78min: Desire Doue, who was booked moments ago as well for simulation, with the breakthrough!

Luis Enrique’s team are on the attack after Harry Kane loses possession, and the ball falls to the young French star on the edge of the box. He looks up and smacks a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner.

Advantage PSG.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:42 , Alex Dakers

76min: Bayern boss Vincent Kompany was booked a few moments ago, having complained about his side not being awarded a corner when Joshua Kimmich’s shot went behind.

Anthony Taylor isn’t having any of it.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:40 , Alex Dakers

73min: Deary me, that was close!

Bayern ‘keeper Manuel Neuer comes miles off his line and has a bit of a howler, spilling a misplaced pass to the opposition and the ball falls to Ousmane Dembele.

But the PSG man, faced with an open goal but in an admittedly difficult position, can only get away a tame effort that trickles just past the post and out of play.

A major let off for Bayern, there.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:36 , Alex Dakers

70min: Desire Doue is not at all happy with that challenge from Laimer.

With play stopped for the foul, Bradley Barcola has been withdrawn by PSG manager Luis Enrique, with Ballon d’Or contender Ousmane Dembele entering the fray in his place.

Could he provide Paris Saint-Germain with the missing ingredient and break the deadlock here tonight?

20 mins of regulation time remaining before we’re faced with extra-time.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:34 , Alex Dakers

68min: The first yellow card of the afternoon is shown to Bayern right-back Konrad Laimer, who will now miss the semi-final through suspension if his side progress.

It was a deserved booking for the Austrian, whose shin connects much too high up on Desire Doue.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:30 , Alex Dakers

63min: Bayern Munich have made two changes already this afternoon, both enforced by injuries to Josip Stanisic and Jamal Musiala.

With an hour and change now gone, will Vincent Kompany roll the dice again soon in search of an opener?

And what of Luis Enrique, who still has Ousmane Dembele among others ready to be called upon?

Still all to play for in this Club World Cup quarter-final.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:27 , Alex Dakers

61min: Michael Olise has had a few chances this afternoon, and another promising one comes his way to no avail.

PSG counter and Desire Doue leaves Bayern’s defence in the dust, but his ball across the box trickles out past the far post with nobody there to turn it in.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:23 , Alex Dakers

56min: Clever again from Kane, who crosses a ball to the back post for Kingsley Coman, but the Frenchman’s header ricochets off Achraf Hakimi and out for a corner.

The resulting delivery is cleared, Bayern win possession again and play it right back to Manuel Neuer.

Some shakiness from both sides early in this second half. When might we see the first goal of the evening?

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:18 , Alex Dakers

52min: Then there’s a very similar chance for Bayern, with Harry Kane unleashing Kingsley Coman down the left wing.

The French forward, who has been impressive today, is pushed out wide this time, though, and his eventual shot elicits a comfortable save from Gianluigi Donnarumma.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:15 , Alex Dakers

49min: It very nearly doesn’t matter, as Bradley Barcola races away on PSG’s next attack.

He’s one-on-one with the Bayern goalkeeper and aims to curl his shot into the right-hand side of the goal, but Manuel Neuer manages a smart stop.

The Parisians have made the brighter start to this second half, with Jamal Musiala’s unfortunate injury perhaps taking some of the wind out of Bayern’s sails after the German side ended the first half on top.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:13 , Alex Dakers

49min: A puzzling one there as Achraf Hakimi knocks the ball forward - straight to Bayern’s waiting defenders.

Not quite the intended free-kick strategy there, you would have to assume!

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

18:12 , Alex Dakers

48 min: No changes for PSG at half-time, meaning Ousmane Dembele remains on the bench - for now.

You’d think it mightn’t be long before we see the Frenchman, if Luis Enrique’s side are still searching for a goal as the second half wears on.

PSG have a free-kick from a little ways out now, but it is directly in front of the goal.

Second half kick-off!

18:09 , Alex Dakers

46min: Back underway for the second half. Jamal Musiala's afternoon is over following a serious-looking ankle injury at the end of the first half.

Serge Gnabry takes his place in Bayern's line-up.

Musiala injury

17:57 , Alex Dakers

Jamal Musiala’s ankle looked to have twisted at an unnatural angle there after he came together with Gianluigi Donnarumma near the touchline.

An awful sight, and hopefully not a serious injury for Musiala. But from the initial appearance - and reactions of players on the pitch - the young German might be done for the day at the very least.

Players react to Jamal Musiala’s injury (Getty Images)

We’ll likely hear some more on that injury from Bayern manager Vincent Kompany at full-time.

Half-Time!

17:53 , Alex Dakers

We’re still level at the interval here in Atlanta.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:52 , Alex Dakers

45min+3: Concern here for Bayern Munich with Jamal Musiala down on the turf after a collision with PSG goalkeeper Donnarumma.

That might be the German’s afternoon over - it didn’t look good.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:50 , Alex Dakers

45min: Bayern think they have an opener on the cusp of half-time, but PSG have smartly played the offside trap there and it’s ruled out after a check.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:49 , Alex Dakers

44min: PSG give the ball away cheaply and Coman is there to play in Jamal Musiala, but the German youngster is unable to get a clean shot away.

Three minutes of stoppage time at the end of this first half.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:45 , Alex Dakers

40min: And then Gianluigi Donnarumma does a super job to stop Aleksandar Pavlovic’s cross, which misses Jamal Musiala’s outstretched boot but looks to be headed towards the PSG goal anyway.

The momentum seems to have shifted in Bayern’s favour a little in these last couple of minutes.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:43 , Alex Dakers

38min: That was very nearly a case of speaking too soon.

Harry Kane has his first half decent chance of the match, a header, but can’t keep on top of it and the ball - from a Kingsley Coman delivery - whistles over.

A minute or so later, the ball rebounds out to substitute Sacha Boey but he blazes his effort over the bar.

Bayern looking more dangerous on the counter attack as the evening ticks on.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:42 , Alex Dakers

37min: As we near half-time, this Club World Cup quarter-final could very much still go either way.

You’d argue PSG have had the better chances, and certainly a higher number of clear cut ones, but Michael Olise’s shot a few minutes ago nearly gave Bayern the lead as well.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:37 , Alex Dakers

33min: Josip Stanisic has had his work cut out for him so far and was down receiving treatment some minutes ago.

The Bayern full-back continued then, but has been forced to come off now. Far from an ideal early change for Vincent Kompany’s side.

Sacha Boey is on in his place.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:35 , Alex Dakers

31min: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has a brilliant run into the box from the left-hand side, charging past the Bayern defence and forcing Manuel Neuer into a save from close range.

The German goalkeeper half spills the ball back to Kvaratskhelia and the Georgian tries to win it back and bundle it into the net, but Bayern clear.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:31 , Alex Dakers

26min: Now, that was much better by Michael Olise!

The ball is played out to the former Crystal Palace man on the right-hand side and he lets loose a powerful shot.

It’s headed towards the top corner before Gianluigi Donnarumma tips it out of bounds for a corner.

No luck from that set piece either, though, with PSG instead winning a free-kick in their own area.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:28 , Alex Dakers

23min: Still no shots on target for PSG tonight then despite having the majority of possession in the opening quarter of an hour.

Bayern’s only effort to force a stop by Gianluigi Donnarumma so far, meanwhile, was Michael Olise’s relatively weak early effort.

Both sides keep knocking on the door.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:26 , Alex Dakers

21min: Probably the best chance of the match so far as PSG work the ball down the left hand side before finding an unmarked Fabian Ruiz just inside the penalty area.

The Spaniard has a go, but can’t keep his effort down and it rockets over the bar.

He’ll be kicking himself for letting that one go to waste.

PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz (Getty Images)

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:23 , Alex Dakers

18min: From nowhere, PSG break - and do so at a lightning-fast pace.

Bradley Barcola lays off Achraf Hakimi, whose excellent delivery from the right finds Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at the back post, but the PSG forward lashes the ball into the side netting.

He’d have done well to score from that angle.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:18 , Alex Dakers

14min: The corner is played short before being swung into the area but ultimately comes to nothing for the Bundesliga champions.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:17 , Alex Dakers

13min: Bayern win a corner now as a teasing delivery from Kingsley Coman is forced behind by PSG centre-back William Pacho...

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:14 , Alex Dakers

10min: The opening 10 minutes have come and gone now. It’s been a relatively end-to-end affair, but no real clear-cut chances for either side.

Doue’s early shot off target was probably the most threatening so far, with Bayern right-back Konrad Laimer wasting what may have been a decent opportunity from a tough angle in the box a few moments ago, electing to go for it himself despite a few teammates waiting in front of the goalmouth.

You sense there are goals in this one, though, with both sides seeming up for it despite a noticeable number of empty seats in the stands at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:10 , Alex Dakers

5min: It’s Bayern’s turn to test their opponent’s goalkeeper now, but Michael Olise - who was dispossessed for that early PSG chance - sends his shot into Ginalugi Donnarumma’s waiting arms.

All square still in Atlanta.

PSG 0-0 Bayern Munich

17:07 , Alex Dakers

2min: An early chance for PSG as Kvaratskhelia wins the ball near the Bayern penalty area.

Desire Doue then takes the ball and flashes a shot just to the left of Manuel Neuer’s post.

A wake-up call for the German side.

Kick-off!

17:03 , Alex Dakers

1min: PSG get us underway here in Atlanta!

They’ve done so with what’s become a regular routine of booting the ball far and out of play, to force the opposition back into their own half.

Moment of silence for Diogo Jota and Andre Silva

17:02 , Alex Dakers

A moment of silence now for Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother and fellow Portuguese footballer Andre Silva.

The pair tragically passed away in a car accident in Spain this week, leaving the football and wider world reeling.

Players taking to the pitch

16:58 , Alex Dakers

PSG’s players are on the pitch, and Bayern’s are being announced one-by-one - a relatively American sports-style quirk of this tournament - now.

We’ll be underway in the next few minutes here in Atlanta for a high-stakes encounter between two European heavyweights.

Clinical Kane not Bayern's only threat

16:53 , Alex Dakers

Kompany is right, of course, about Bayern’s goal-scoring abilities.

The Bundesliga winners scored more league goals (99) in the 2024-25 season than any team in Europe’s top five leagues aside from La Liga champions FC Barcelona (102); PSG weren’t far behind, on 92.

A key contributor to those statistics was striker Harry Kane.

The England captain has registered a staggering 78 goal contributions in 63 total Bundesliga games for Bayern since arriving ahead of the 2023-24 season, as well as 25 in 25 Champions League outings.

He also has four goal contributions in four games at this tournament so far.

PSG’s backline, and towering shot-stopper Gianlugi Donnarumma, will be keeping a close eye on Bayern’s clinical frontman this evening - but they won’t want to forget about the likes of Jamal Musiala or Michael Olise, either.

Expect lots of goals?

16:47 , Alex Dakers

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has just spoken to official Club World Cup broadcaster DAZN.

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany (Getty Images)

Here’s what the former Belgium international and Manchester City defender had to say about tonight’s encounter:

“The team prepared well so it gives me the feeling that we can compete with [PSG], the strongest team in Europe last season.

“It’s a great opportunity to play against the [Champions League] champions and take something away from them, but it’s going to be the toughest possible game and that’s what we’ve prepared for.”

Asked how Bayern might stop their Parisian opponents, Kompany added: “When you play against the top teams it’s details, moments, individual awareness of situations - but they have to manage us as well.

“We have a team that’s used to scoring many, many goals and they do too, so that’s what makes it interesting.”

What impact could Dembele have?

16:32 , Alex Dakers

After a stellar season for PSG, Ousmane Dembele made his first appearance of this Club World Cup with a second-half cameo in the last-16 triumph over Inter Miami.

The Frenchman said he took his time to recover from the thigh soreness that kept him out of the group stage, but is now “100% ready to help the team”.

Speaking before kick-off, Dembele said he and his teammates have “a lot of respect” for Bayern Munich, acknowledging that tonight’s opponents have gotten the better of them a few times recently.

But the winger maintained the the Parisians are “going to give it everything we’ve got” and are confident they can come out on top.

It’ll be interesting to see what impact Dembele can have off the bench tonight.

Not that PSG are short on star power without him on the pitch, of course.

PSG XI

Recap: Who else is still in the Club World Cup?

15:50 , Alex Dakers

On the other side of the Club World Cup bracket, Chelsea edged past Brazilian side Palmeiras thanks to a goalkeeping howler late last night.

It means the Blues will face Fluminense - also of Brazil - in the tournament’s first semi-final, with the other semi due to be contested by the respective winners of PSG vs Bayern and Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund.

A pivotal afternoon of football awaits us, then, as some of Europe’s biggest teams go to battle!

Which stars could miss the Club World Cup semis?

15:38 , Alex Dakers

There are a few players in action tonight who, should they be shown a yellow card and their team progress, will miss the Club World Cup semi-finals.

Jobe Bellingham has already fallen victim to the rule, which sees players receive a one-game ban after they’ve picked up two bookings over the course of the tournament so far. It means the Borussia Dortmund newcomer won’t feature against his brother, Jude, in tonight’s other quarter-final showdown versus Real Madrid.

As for PSG vs Bayern, a handful of players - including several key names - will be walking the suspension tightrope tonight:

Paris Saint-Germain: Fabian Ruiz, Joao Neves, Marquinhos.

Bayern Munich: Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah, Konrad Laimer, Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala.

Predicted PSG XI

The big decision for Luis Enrique is what to do in attack. Does he recall Ousmane Dembele or stick with the same team that started the 4-0 win over Inter Miami?

If the Frenchman is handed a first start of the competitionm it will most likely come at the expense of Bradley Barcola.

Predicted PSG XI: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia.

Confident Kane

15:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane is confident heading into the PSG match.

After netting a brace against Flamengo last time out, he said: “It’s going to be another difficult match against PSG, they’ve had an unbelievable season.

“We already played against them this season and came out on top. We have to try to take the energy and the good feeling into this match.

"We know it’s going to be difficult but we feel like we can beat anyone when we’re at our top level."

Score prediction

14:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

You simply cannot write off Bayern Munich given their attacking options as well as their recent record against PSG.

However, they are rather susceptible defensively and that could be their undoing against a PSG side that shouldn't have many problems in creating chances.

PSG to win, 3-2.

Bayern Munich team news

14:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The Bundesliga side will be forced into at least one squad alteration from the 4-2 win over Flamengo. Leroy Sane, a substitute in the round of 16 tie, is no longer an option for Vincent Kompany after leaving the camp to complete his free transfer to Galatasaray.

Kingsley Coman and Konrad Laimer are doubts after picking up knocks against Flamengo, but Harry Kane is expected to lead the line.
