PSG training pictures offer Lionel Messi fitness update ahead of Manchester City showdown

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi is back in full training ahead of the clash with Manchester City in the Champions League.

The two teams will meet on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes in a repeat of last season's semi-final, which City won 4-1 on aggregate.

PSG have bulked up their squad significantly since that defeat, with the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos and Georginio Wijnaldum moving to the French capital.

The most high-profile acquisition was Messi though, as he left Barcelona after a remarkable 17-year stint at the Camp Nou.

His signing, along with the other big names, has placed extra pressure on PSG to fare well in Europe's premier club competition. After a 1-1 draw against Club Brugge in Week 1 of the Champions League, Tuesday's encounter is a big one for Mauricio Pochettino's side.

There were some concerns that PSG would be without Messi for the match with the Premier League champions, having picked up a knock in the win over Lyon. The 34-year-old has missed the last two Ligue 1 matches with the problem.

However, it would appear Messi is on course to feature against City and his former manager at Barcelona in Pep Guardiola, as he took part in PSG's open session on Monday.

The Argentina international was pictured sharing a joke with Neymar during the session, with the pair expected to line up alongside Kylian Mbappe in a supercharged attacking trio.

While he is regarded as the best footballer on the planet by many, Messi is yet to register a goal for his new club. It'll be intriguing to see how he fares on Tuesday if selected too, as it is clashes like these against City that PSG brought him to the club to decide.

Guardiola's outfit are unlikely to be daunted heading to Paris though. Not only did they win 2-1 at PSG in the semi-final first leg last season, they produced an excellent display on Saturday to beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
