PSG star told ‘not to talk about Lionel Messi’ after transfer speculation

Leandro Paredes has confirmed he was told by Paris Saint-Germain “not to talk about Lionel Messi” amid transfer speculation linking the Barcelona superstar with a move to the French capital.

The 33-year-old’s future remains in doubt, despite Joan Laporta’s victory in the presidential election this month, which has largely been seen as a positive turning point for the way that the Catalan club will be run after a dismal few years under Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Neymar and Angel Di Maria have been among the PSG stars to openly campaign for Messi to move to the Parc des Princes.

And Paredes told ESPN last December: “Messi at PSG? I hope so, we all want him to come. I hope Leo will make the best decision for him, but we will welcome him with open arms.”

But the PSG heirarchy appear to have moved to stop the public appealing towards the Barcelona No 10.

“They have asked me not to talk about it anymore,” Paredes toldLe Journal Du Dimanche.

“People didn’t like my position on what I was saying. Some people saw it as disrespectful. This was not the case for me.

“It’s up to Messi to decide calmly at the end of the season what he wants to do with his future.”

Messi has also spoken about a potential move to MLS in the United States.

“I always said that I have the impression that I would like to enjoy the experience of living in the United States, but if it happens or not I don’t know,” Messi told La Sexta recently.

“I have nothing clear until the end of the year, I will wait for the end of the season.”
