PSG star shocks fans by asking for live stream of Checkatrade Trophy final

Thomas Meunier is a footballer at the top of his game, having become an integral part of both the Paris Saint-Germain and Belgium squads.

Meunier has won one league title in France after arriving at PSG in 2016, and was also part of his country's team who finished third at last summer’s World Cup in Russia.

So, you wouldn’t blame the well-known footballer for not having an interest in lower-league English football, but it seems he is in fact a keen fan.

Ahead of Sunday’s Checkatrade Trophy final at Wembley, Meunier sent social media into meltdown after posting a surprise tweet.

PSG fans turn on star after 'liking' Manchester United post on social media

He wrote: “Does someone have a streaming link for Portsmouth-Sunderland? Thanks.”

Although some were baffled as to why he’d have interest in the match, most fans were loving the post.

A sold-out Wembley crowd watched the action on Sunday afternoon as the two League One outfits went head-to-head.

The attendance is set to be the biggest for any final in the Checkatrade Trophy's history, surpassing the 80,841 who saw Wolves beat Burnley in 1988.

And Sunderland manager Jack Ross is hoping to lift the trophy, though his main focus is on earning promotion back to the Championship.

Ross said: "The only way I will be truly satisfied with the job I have done this season is if we get promotion.

"The goal for me as a manager was to get promoted. I did not come here to have an OK season and for people to say he has stabilised the club.

"We have come a long way in ten months. Sometimes you forget where we started.

"The chance to win silverware and write yourselves into club history... those chances don't come very often.

"Lots of very good players and manager's don't get the chance to win anything. We have very quickly the chance of a trophy and a winners' medal."
