PSG star Idrissa Gueye makes Gini Wijnaldum admission after Liverpool exit

Former Everton star Idrissa Gueye welcomed the arrival of Gini Wijnaldum from Liverpool on a free transfer and relishes the added competition in the PSG midfield.

The Dutchman signed for the Parisian side in July on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool expired.

Wijnaldum's arrival at Le Parc des Princes means PSG now have 14 midfielders battling for a starting spot in Mauricio Pochettino's side.

However, his new teammate Gueye welcomed the added competition claiming it was what the team needed.

“You can never be sure of anything. A place is never acquired; we will have to fight," he said.

"I played with Everton against Wijnaldum when he was at Liverpool; he is an excellent player.

“He is one more quality player; we are happy to have him with us. It will be up to the coach to make his choices, and we will respect them.

"The most important is the team."

Despite once being Merseyside derby rivals, the 31-year-old claimed Wijnaldum's experience at Anfield will bring added quality to the Ligue 1 side.

"He won the Champions League there, that's the sort of player we need. He is a player who will bring extra quality to the team," he said.

"We are very pleased to have him here. We hope he will help us win trophies and go as far as we can in every competition .

"In terms of competition, it's a very good thing for the team, that's what you need at the club. Starters and substitutes, then it's down to the coach to make the decisions.

"Everyone respects that and my card for the team trying to give as much as we can. The team is the most important thing, that comes above all individuals ."
