Paris Saint-Germain have launched an audacious attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland to replace the outgoing Kylian Mbappe.
The Frenchman is on the verge of completing a sensational move to Real Madrid and the Ligue 1 club are attempting to replace him with an extraordinary move for Haaland.
That is according to a report in The Telegraph, who claim that the Norwegian goal-scoring sensation has been identified by PSG to replace Mbappe in what would be an incredible deal.
The French club have made contact with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola regarding the potential of a last-minute transfer having received a second bid from Madrid for Mbappe - thought to be in the region of £145million.
Haaland joined the German club from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020 and has a £64million release clause that is due to kick in during 2022 - two years after he moved to the Bundesliga.
Any transfer deal this summer would require a significantly higher fee - one that could even surpass the valuation of Mbappe’s impending move to the Spanish capital.
Dortmund have rejected any suggestion that their striking sensation would be sold this summer and any attempt to land him at such a late stage in the transfer window is unlikely to be warmly received at the Bundesliga side.
This is not thought to have stopped PSG’s intentions to move for the 21-year-old, who could become the latest superstar player to switch clubs in an action-packed summer transfer window.
A series of elite players have changed clubs this summer including Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, while Cristiano Ronaldo and Mbappe are also thought to be close to concluding late changes in clubs.
Haaland’s father Alf-Inge enjoyed stints in English football with both Nottingham Forest and Leeds United, with Erling born in Yorkshire and spending his early childhood in England.

There has been an intense battle to put the framework in place to secure his signature due to his remarkable scoring record - he has netted 62 goals in 63 matches for the Bundesliga side.
PSG have already signed Raiola’s client Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer, following the Italian national team goalkeeper departing Milan.
The Parisians have also completed the stunning captures of defender Sergio Ramos, midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and wing-back Achraf Hakimi.
A move for Haaland would see him join a fearsome front three including Messi and Neymar.
Haaland had previously scored 29 goals in 27 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg with his strike rate unparalleled for a player so young.
Indeed, the Norway international has found the net 20 times in 16 Champions League appearances since the start of the 2019/20 campaign.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are among the leading Premier League clubs who have been linked to his signature.
