PSG put five players up 'for sale' including Julian Draxler following Lionel Messi transfer

Paris Saint-Germain are preparing a fire sale of players in the closing weeks of the summer transfer window.

The Ligue 1 club have enjoyed a hugely extravagant summer in which they have signed five high-earning players including Lionel Messi, the highest paid player in world football.

Messi joined former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, Italy international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and Inter wing-back Achraf Hakimi in moving to the Parisians this summer.

Such a lavish outlay on player wages means that the club now must prioritise slimming down their salary before the close of the window.

The French club have now put five of their first-team squad players up for sale as they look to trim their squad ahead of the start of the new campaign.

There has only been one permanent exit from the squad at the Parc des Princes so far this window as left-back Mitchel Bakker joining Bayer Leverkusen in a £6.5million deal.

Alessandro Florenzi and Moise Kean returned to Roma and Everton respectively following their loan spells while goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has headed up the temporary exits as he joined West Ham on a season-long loan arrangement.

Diario AS cite a report from French outlet Le Parisien that five players have been identified as being allowed to move on this summer.

The list is headed up by playmaker Julian Draxler, who has amassed over 50 international appearances for Germany and he joined PSG from Wolfsburg in January 2017.

Draxler has started a mere 19 league matches from a potential 68 across the past two full seasons and is now among those for whom offers will be considered.

Another player among the list is Spain international Pablo Sarabia, who featured five times for his nation during their run to the semi-finals of Euro 2020 including starts against Croatia and Switzerland in the knockout stages.

As with Draxler, Sarabia has been a peripheral figure at the French giants - starting just 13 league games in each of his two campaigns at the club.

Rafinha Alcantara - the brother of Liverpool midfielder Thiago, who moved to Paris from Barcelona a year ago - is another whom is said to be surplus to requirements, despite making 34 appearances during his debut campaign in the French capital.

Two more players who could be on their way out of the club are defensive duo are left-back Layvin Kurzawa and Thilo Kehrer - who have both fallen from prominence at PSG.

None of the five players are among the club’s highest earners but a lack of first-team opportunities is likely to hasten departures in the coming weeks.
