Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has said that he’s “not worried” about Kylian Mbappe’s future, despite the fact that his star forward is heading into the last year of his contract.
Mbappe’s current deal runs until June 2022, meaning that the player PSG signed from Monaco for £165.7m could feasibly leave on a free transfer. Real Madrid’s interest in him is one of the worst-kept secrets in football, with Real president Florentino Perez already making plans to fund the transfer .
PSG lost their Ligue 1 title to Lille at the weekend, despite their vast financial resources. It has been a disappointing season for Les Parisiens all told, though they did win the Coupe de France earlier this month with Mbappe scoring a decisive late goal in the final against Monaco.
Even in an underwhelming campaign for the team, Mbappe has been named Ligue 1’s Player of the Season after scoring an unrivalled 27 goals in the league. Speaking after PSG’s 2-0 win against Brest on the final day – a result which would have won them the title were it not for Lille’s 2-1 win against Angers – he answered questions about his future.

“Everyone knows how profoundly attached I am to the club. I have always been very thankful towards the president and my different coaches,” he told Canal+.
“What I want is to win, to feel like I am somewhere where I can win, where there is a solid project around me. The footballing project is essential. I want to feel like I am part of a team that is going to do something. Then, it is up to us to show what we can do.
“We are talking with the club, we will see what happens.
“In any case, I have always been happy here and I have had four exceptional years here, we are very clear with the club.
“The club knows my relationship with it, this city, this country. We are going to do things in the way they should be done, in one way or another.
“I cannot say what needs to be done [to improve the team], I am just a player, but I think that people have seen, everyone has seen.
“When everyone sees, it is easier to draw conclusions, but there is no problem. We lost the title, but now, we have to concentrate on the future.”
While speculation about a move to Madrid is unlikely to stop any time soon, Al-Khelaifi made it clear that he sees Mbappe’s future in Paris. “For me, Kylian is a PSG player and will be a PSG player,” he said. “I am not worried.
“Do not worry, let us work. Mbappe is Parisian. He is French, he is Parisian, he is under contract and he wants to stay 100 percent.”
