PSG manager Thomas Tuchel makes Manchester United admission after Champions League win

Thomas Tuchel admits his Paris Saint-Germain side were 'lucky' not to fall behind to Manchester United in the second-half of their meeting on Wednesday night.

A brace from Neymar and a strike from captain Marquinhos secured a 3-1 win for PSG at Old Trafford in the Champions League in midweek, to put Tuchel's side on the brink of qualification to the knockout rounds.

The French side dominated the first-half but went in level after Marcus Rashford's deflected strike drew United back into the game, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side firmly the better side after the half-time break.

Edinson Cavani struck the bar and Anthony Martial squandered two great opportunities as United failed to make the most of their best spell in the game.

Fred's red card seconds after Marquinhos had given PSG the lead all but assured victory for the away side, but Tuchel admits they were lucky not to fall behind under United's initial intense pressure.

“In the first 15 minutes of the second half, we suffered a lot,” Tuchel told the official club website.

“We didn't adapt our positioning with the ball. We lost too many easy balls and that’s why we were hit with two or three very difficult counter attacks.

“We were lucky that we didn’t concede the second goal, but we never accepted defeat in this match.

"We never gave up. We showed great spirit and some real quality and it was a great end to the match.

"The match was always going to be very tough, so I am very happy but we will remain calm because we haven't qualified yet and we need to take it one step further.
