PSG make Neymar announcement after forward is ruled out of Copa America

Neymar will be out of action for four weeks, Paris Saint-Germain have announced.

The Brazilian was ruled out of Copa America this summer after suffering ankle ligament damage in his nation's warm-up game against Qatar on Wednesday.

He took to Instagram to share a gruesome image of his injured ankle following the game.

Neymar quickly flew back to Paris and was seen to by PSG's medical staff this weekend.

A club statement said: "On Saturday 8 June, Paris Saint-Germain’s first team doctor, Dr Laurent Aumont, and the club’s Medical Board member and leading figure in sport medicine Professor Gerard Saillant assessed the injury picked up by Neymar Jr in Brazil's preparation match for the Copa America last Wednesday.

"The two doctors diagnosed a sprain of the lateral ligament of the right ankle without surgical indication, to be treated with conservative treatment.

"The Paris Saint-Germain striker is expected to return on the field in four weeks time."

Neymar left the field at the Estadio Nacional visibly upset and was later seen leaving the ground on crutches.

He simply wrote on Instagram afterwards: "After the storm comes the calm."

Brazil confirmed that their former captain will play no part in this summer's Copa America following an initial inspection of his injury.

"After suffering a sprain in his right ankle during last Wednesday's game against Qatar, Neymar was evaluated and subjected to complementary imaging tests that confirmed ligament rupture in the ankle," a statement read.

"Due to the seriousness of the injury, Neymar will not have the physical conditions and sufficient recovery time to participate in the Copa America Brasil 2019."
