PSG 'line up transfer move for Man Utd striker' as Edinson Cavani replacement

PSG are weighing up a shock move for Manchester United's loan striker Odion Ighalo as they seek to replace Edinson Cavani.

The Parisians' all time top goalscorer is leaving the French capital and is poised to join Benfica on a free transfer.

It leaves them short of an option in attack and Ighalo, who has impressed in Manchester since arriving in January, is on their radar according to German outlet Fussballtransfers.

The Nigerian enjoyed an impressive spell at Watford before heading to China with Shanghai Shenhua in 2016.

He returned to England late in the January transfer window as United sought to add more firepower and has impressed enough to have his loan spell extended.

Ighalo will remain at Old Trafford until January but no deal is in place over a permanent move.

He has scored five times and provided one assist thus far which has attracted the attention of PSG who already have the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi in their ranks.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left the door open for a permanent deal, but he may now face competition.

He said earlier this year: "It's a loan, but when you're in the door and if you impress it gives you a chance.

"That's exactly the same for everyone who signs if it's permanent or it's a loan. If you impress as a player, if you impress as a person, if you can help this group improve, then of course there's a chance that we'll look at extending things.

"I think he's probably pinching himself at times, because he's now at his favourite club at the age of 30.

"Hopefully he'll prove to you what I think he will. He's a proven goalscorer, so he'll do all right."
