PSG hand Edu clear Arsenal road to complete £59m deal for promising Portugal forward

Edu has been given a price tag on a potential summer transfer signing. Paris-Saint Germain have reportedly set their sights on reported Arsenal target Rafael Leao.

According to Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, PSG are prepared to offer AC Milan £59m to secure the services of the Portuguese international. The Parisian club are also willing to pay the youngster £5m-a-year in order for him to join the club.

The forward would certainly be an excellent signing for the Gunners. If Edu wants to complete a deal for Leao, he now has a clear price on what it would take to bring him over to the Emirates stadium.

Italian outlet
La Repubblica claims that Arsenal have turned their attention to the AC Milan forward. He has previously been linked with moves to Everton and Wolves.

And there’s an extra incentive for the Gunners to sign him after Leao also revealed his admiration for Thierry Henry on social media recently. The Milan forward posted a surf emoji when referring to Henry’s excellent performance against Real Madrid for Arsenal in the 2006 edition of the Champions League.

The Portuguese attacker has ten goals and six assists for Milan this season, and would certainly add more quality to Arsenal’s frontline. What makes him more of a desirable signing is that he can feature on either the wing positions or as a lone forward, which highlights his versatility.

His best position, however, is the inside forward position from the left-hand side which fits perfectly into Mikel Arteta’s system. Gabriel Martinelli has featured in a similar for the Spaniards and has been thriving for the Gunners.

Arsenal will be in desperate need a forward in the summer transfer window, with both Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah's days looking increasingly numbered. It gets even more daunting when you factor in that Folarin Balogun could be the only attacking option at the start of next season if Edu fails to bring in a forward.

The club have been linked to wingers such as Noa Lang, but Leao would be a much better option due to his knack for goal scoring even if he isn’t the team’s main focal point. Arsenal have had goal sources from many different areas this season, and Leao would certainly be able to add to that.

A deal for Leao will be hard to complete, however, as a new contract at Milan is said to be on the cards. But with PSG also in the hunt for the forward, his mind could be swayed, and with the exciting project Mikel Arteta is building, Leao would certainly be a beneficiary piece for the Gunners.
