PSG director confirms Edinson Cavani transfer decision amid Chelsea and Man Utd links

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has confirmed that forward Edinson Cavani has asked to leave the club this month.

The Uruguayan international has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea and Manchester United among the potential suitors for the forward.

And both clubs have been put on alert, with Leonardo confirming that he has made his mind up on his future in the French capital.

“Edinson Cavani has asked to leave this month," the PSG sporting director said, speaking after the 1-0 win against Lorient in the Coupe de France.

However, Leonardo confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain had turned down a bid from Atletico Madrid.

"We are studying the situation. We had an offer from Atletico Madrid, we did not accept it. I don't know how this is going to turn out."

PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel added that he was not sure that Cavani would be with the French champions in February, with the 32-year-old's contract set to expire in June.

As such, he is able to speak to other clubs across Europe, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirming after the Red Devils' 2-0 defeat against Liverpool that the injury to Marcus Rashford could influence their transfer plans as they look to strengthen their forward options.
