PSG denied Ligue 1 title after former Premier League star is guilty of 'worst miss ever'

Paris-Saint Germain failed to wrap up the Ligue 1 title - thanks to possibly the worst miss of all time.

Eric Choupo-Moting was less than a yard out from goal when Christopher Nkunku chipped Strasbourg keeper Matz Sels to play him in for what was literally a tap-in.

The former Stoke City forward simply couldn't miss from that distance - or so everybody in the stadium thought.

But PSG fans were stunned when he stabbed at the ball with his left foot - and actually stopped it from crossing the line.

The miss was even worse than his blunder last month, when he ballooned a rebound over the bar from inside the six-yard box in PSG's 1-0 defeat to Toulouse.

Chance to write his name in PSG history

Choupo-Moting had given PSG the lead against Strasbourg on Sunday, but saw his goal cancelled out by Nuno da Costa.

So as he bore down on the Strasbourg goal with the keeper stranded and no one to beat but the goal line itself, he had a golden chance to write his name into PSG folklore by restoring a lead that could have secured an early title triumph.

Choupo-Moting, signed from Stoke on a free transfer last summer, would actually have been better not touching the ball at all.

Why PSG dropping interest in Ander Herrera is bad news for Everton

Not only was he guilty of what fans are calling the worst miss in football history, but he also denied team-mate Nkunku the glory, as his delightfully dinked ball over Sels would have crossed the line anyway without Choupo-Moting's assistance.

Of course, Choupo-Moting's gaffe caused some sniggers on social media - being described as "the best save of all time" and "fantastic defending". Another fan joked that following a move from Stoke City to PSG last summer, his miss would earn him another big transfer.

Liverpool given hope in Adrien Rabiot transfer as star is suspended by PSG

Strasbourg went into half-time with the lead thanks to Anthony Gonçalves.

But Thomas Tuchel's men salvaged a 2-2 draw after Thilo Kehrer scored late on.

The game eventually finished 2-2. PSG, 20 points ahead with a game in hand, will have another chance to seal the French title when they travel to face second-placed Lille on Sunday.
