PSG chief Leonardo issues update on Mauricio Pochettino amid Manchester United interest

Paris Saint-Germain chief Leonardo has insisted that Mauricio Pochettino is going nowhere, amid interest from Manchester United.

United are still keen on the former Tottenham coach as the next permanent manager, the Manchester Evening News reported earlier this week, with Ralf Rangnick coming in imminently as interim manager for six months.

Their focus turned to Pochettino as a potential permanent addition following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a poor run of form that saw the Reds win just once in two months as Claudio Ranieri's side piled on the pressure with a 4-1 win last week.

The club have reached an agreement with Rangnick to become the interim manager until the end of the season but it hasn't scuppered the Reds' pursuit of acquiring Pochettino in the summer.

However, the PSG chief has reiterated his intentions to keep Pochettino in the French capital and rubbished reports claiming Zinedine Zidane was in place to succeed the Argentine in the event his move to Old Trafford materialised.

“We do not want Pochettino to leave,” Leonardo told AFP on Friday. “He never asked to leave and no club contacted us in relation to him.

“We have lots of respect for Zinedine Zidane, for what he did as a player and coach, but I can affirm very clearly that there was no contact or meeting with him.

“It is ridiculous to imagine that a meeting with Zidane could have taken place in a big hotel, in Paris, in front of the world.”

The Parisiens were in Manchester on Wednesday for their penultimate Champions League group stage match against Man City but left with nothing after Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus fired the Blues to three points.
