PSG chief discusses potential Cristiano Ronaldo transfer with "five clubs" admission

Leonardo has responded to his PSG's links with Cristiano Ronaldo by claiming the Ligue 1 giants are one of "five or six" clubs with the stature to pull off the transfer.

Ronaldo has just over 18 months remaining on his deal with Juventus but he remains heavily linked with a move to Parc des Princes.

At 35, the switch to the French club may be the last one of his career but Ronaldo's form is showing no signs of letting up.

The Portugal superstar has scored six goals in four Serie A games this season having won back-to-back titles since his £99.2million move from Real Madrid in 2018.

Ronaldo's impressive form has only escalated speculation about his future and, when asked about PSG's links with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, Leonardo left the door open for the transfer with a coy response.

The PSG chief said: "As for Ronaldo, if he wakes up in the morning and says: ‘I want to join a new team,’ where can he go?”

“There are only five or six clubs he can join, it’s a closed circle and PSG are included in it.

"We always prepare our market and our list of priorities, sometimes extraordinary things can happen but nothing of this happened in the last window. There were no crazy moves.”

Leonardo also confirmed PSG have entered negotiations over contract extensions for some of the club's biggest stars, including Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

On Neymar's potential new deal, he said: "We started talking. It has its 'timing'. Right now, people can't even move.

"The idea of renewing exists. We started, we reached a point where you have to have clearer ideas about that."

Leonardo added: "We have started the discussions. We have to adapt to the economic reality, but all the extensions... (Angel) Di Maria, Neymar, Mbappé, even (Juan) Bernat or (Julian) Draxler, we have started to discuss and we are going to intensify them in the upcoming weeks".
