PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi issues emphatic response over Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs links

Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi has told of his annoyance at the speculation linking Mauricio Pochettino with a return to Tottenham Hotspur.

football.london understands that discussions took place between Spurs and the Argentine over a reunion, despite him having been sacked by the club only 17 months ago.

The talks left Tottenham fans excited over the prospect of his return to the club having enjoyed a hugely successful spell.

However, Al-Khelaifi did not share such delight having been irritated at the reports and confirmed that Pochettino never requested to depart the French capital.

Talking to L’Equipe, the Qatari businessman said: “Look, at the end of the season I had two encounters with [Mauricio] Pochettino, two or three hours each time. He never told me he wanted to leave.

“He never had an attitude that suggested he wanted to leave. It's the opposite. He was totally involved in the issues: the club, the structure, the organization, what he needs for the next season.

“He talks to Leonardo almost every day about the transfer window, the players, etc. This situation really bothers me, it is not suitable.

“He is here since January, he still has two years of contract, he is our coach. Both for him and for [Kylian] Mbappé, people are trying to annoy us. But we are together. No one will divide us by doing this.”

Pochettino has thus far elected to remain with PSG, with Spurs still struggling to find a successor for Jose Mourinho.

Antonio Conte was close to being appointed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but football.london understands talks have been called off after Daniel Levy failed to come to an agreement with the Italian.
