PSG 'blown away' by Sergio Ramos as centre-back closes in on transfer

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly been left 'blown away' by Sergio Ramos' physical shape after he completed a medical ahead of signing for the French giants.

The legendary 35-year-old centre-back left Real Madrid at the end of last month following 16 glorious years at the Bernabeu after his contract expired.

He was strongly linked with a whole host of elite clubs, along them the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

But in the end PSG's interest was strongest, and it appears that they have won the race for the four-time Champions League winner.

Ramos was pictured at the club's training ground on Wednesday afternoon, and it is expected that it will be announced that he has signed a two-year deal with Mauricio Pochettino's side in the very near future.

And according to RMC Sport , PSG's medical staff could not believe how fit Ramos was given his age.

It raises questions over why Madrid chose not to offer their talismanic figure a new deal, and it could well be that they live to regret that decision if Ramos impresses in Ligue 1.

Speaking about his departure from Madrid, Ramos said at the time: “I would like to clarify that I never wanted to leave Real Madrid, I always wanted to continue here.

"The club offered me the chance to renew my contract, but with COVID and everything it kept being put off.

“Then in the last months the club made me an offer of one year, with a drop in salary. Money was never a problem, the president knew from my mouth that my issue was contract length — I wanted two years, for me and my family.”

Meanwhile, although United missed out on one Madrid defender they could yet sign another one, with Frenchman Rafael Varane still very much in their sights.

Varane himself is out of contract next summer, and has no plans to sign a new contract with the La Liga club.

The 28-year-old has won three titles and four Champions League trophies with Los Blancos and is ready for a new challenge.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport , Varane is so eager to join Man United that he has given them his word he will be signing on the dotted line.

ABC Sports adds that the defender has also already agreed on personal terms with Solskjaer and co. and that now it is simply a case of the two clubs shaking hands on a price.
