(Reuters) - Paris St Germain reached the halfway mark of the Ligue 1 season in the driving seat after goals by Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe inspired them to a 3-1 home win against Caen on Wednesday.

As Ligue 1 heads into a winter break until Jan.12, PSG have 50 points from 19 games and lead second-placed Monaco, who beat Stade Rennais 2-1 at Louis II, by nine points.

Olympique Lyonnais, who prevailed 2-1 at Toulouse thanks to a Nabil Fekir penalty and a Rafael goal, are third, behind Monaco on goal difference, with Olympique de Marseille, 3-1 victors over visiting Troyes, in fourth place, a further three points adrift.

At the Parc des Princes, PSG took their goal tally to an impressive 58 at the halfway point.

Cavani scored his 19th league goal of the season with a superb back-heel from Mbappe's cross in the 21st minute.

France international Mbappe grabbed the second goal in the 57th minute when he tapped in from a cross by Giovani Lo Celso.

Yuri Berchiche added to Caen's woes nine minutes from time before Ivan Santini reduced the arrears with a last-minute penalty.

At Louis II, Monaco stayed in the hunt thanks to goals by Radamel Falcao and Keita Balde.

Girondins de Bordeaux coach Jocelyn Gourvennec's job is on the line after his team lost 2-0 at home to Montpellier, having collected only five points from their last 12 games.
