PSG 4-1 Club Brugge: Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe both hit braces in Champions League win

Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe both hit braces as Paris Saint-Germain rounded off what had been an underwhelming Champions League up until matchday six.

While the quality of the Club Brugge team they were facing must be taken into account, this was the same side who held PSG at bay during the opening round of fixtures, but could do little to prevent Mbappe from opening the scoring from within two minutes.

The forward, who linked up with Messi and Angel Di Maria exceptionally well, then added a second with an emphatic finish five minutes later before turning provider.

Evading his marker and showcasing the kind of speed that makes him one of the most devastating forwards in world football, the 22-year-old found Messi with a cross-field pass, which the Argentine took in his stride before curling a shot in from around 25-yards out.

Brugge did start the second-half well and fashioned more than a few chances before Mats Rits pulled one back, only for Messi to both win and score from a penalty to wrap the game up.

An impressive showing from Mauricio Pochettino’s side though there are surely tougher tests to come.
