Sweet treat lovers, this one’s for you. Krispy Kreme has launched two new limited-edition donuts, and they’re equally trendy and nostalgic. The flavour in question? My personal favourite: hazelnut.
The Hazelnut Duo is what a chocolate and hazelnut lover’s fantasies are made of. The first flavour in the range is the Choc Hazelnut Dream, a donut filled with choc hazelnut kreme, hand-dipped in crunchy choc hazelnut spread and sprinkled with caramelised hazelnuts. As for the second, the White Hazelnut Dream, it’s basically the same thing, substituting the choc hazelnut kreme and choc hazelnut spread for a white chocolate edition.
Think oozing kreme, crunchy hazelnut spreads, and Krispy Kreme’s classic pillowy soft donuts. YUM!
They’re giving Nutella and Kinder Bueno, in my humble, sweet tooth opinion.
The Hazelnut Duo range comes as hazelnut shapes up to be one of the next biggest food trends, with ‘#hazelnut’ surpassing 1.9 million posts across Instagram and TikTok.
Does this mean the chokehold pistachio has on us is finally easing?
While notorious for its Original Glazed donut ring (the best flavour, BTW), Krispy Kreme isn’t one to shy away from food trends. At the height of the pistachio craze last year, the brand collaborated with Melbourne brand Pistachio Papi to make the Pistachio Overload, an addictive pistachio mousse-filled donut with a white chocolate drizzle — an ode to Pistachio Papi’s pistachio and white chocolate spread. After multiple sell-outs during limited runs, Krispy Kreme has just made it a mainstay in its lineup. So if all goes well during the Hazelnut Duo’s run and the fans chant for more, this coooould be made permanent.
You can buy the Choc Hazelnut Dream and White Choc Hazelnut Dream individually for $4.80 each, in a four pack for $15.95, or in a dozen for $34.95. They’re only available until June 2, and after that, you’ll have to revert back to your OG Krispy Kreme order.
