PS5 restock alert: Game and Argos set to have UK availability

Argos and Game will be selling the much sought-after PlayStation 5 this week after getting deliveries of the rare games console.

The PlayStation PS5 was released in November 2020, but actually buying one has been impossible for many shoppers.

The shortage is due to high demand during the pandemic, a global shortage of microchip processors and even the Suez Canal being blocked by the Ever Given cargo ship earlier in the year.

It's proven so difficult to track a PS5 down that dedicated Twitter accounts exist to give updates on when shops might restock the console.

But now retailer Game has confirmed it is getting the consoles in stock from this morning until November 19.

The firm said it would sell one console per customer, and would be running checks to make sure no-one was buying one to sell for profit.

Argos will get some on November 18 and 19, according to reports.

However, an Argos spokesperson would not confirm the rumour.

The spokesperson said: "We haven’t announced any updates. We continue to encourage customers to check back regularly."

It will cost you around £449 for the full console, while a digital edition without a disc tray is priced at £359.

The PS5 has an 8-core AMD Zen 2-based CPU at 3.5GHz, 16GB of GGDR6 RAM and 825GB of internal storage.

It is meant to be 100 times faster than the PS4, so games will load at super-fast speeds.

Shoppers are advised to keep checking major retailers if you want to snap one of the consoles up.

And consumers can always buy the console online , provided they don't mind paying 50% extra.

But if you can't wait for shops to restock the PS5, there is one place you can still find it - eBay.

In September one eBayer was selling the full console for £699.99, an increase of around 55%.

The digital console was also being traded on the auction website for around £569.99, a 58% price rise.

Experts of the gaming giant have predicted another surge ahead of Christmas as the gift-buying bonanza begins.

Rising demand will be compounded by the arrival of Black Friday and Cyber Monday this month.

If you want a console but haven't got your heart set on the PS5, the new Xbox series has had supply shortages but nothing on the scale seen by its PlayStation rival.

The Xbox Series X (£449) and Xbox Series S (£249), also launched last November.

The Series S is the digital sibling to the more powerful Series X.
