PS5 Ireland stock update from main retailers as Christmas nears

After months of anticipation, the PlayStation 5 finally went on sale in Ireland at the end of last month.

Eager gamers flocked to buy the console, with retailers selling out in record time.

As Christmas nears, some retailers have warned that they won’t be getting restocks any time soon.

Smyths

Smyths Ireland have said that they will not secure any more consoles before January 2021.

They tweeted: "Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee we will receive more stock before the end of the year.

"Please keep an eye on the website for further stock replenishment details.

"Apologies for any disappointment caused. Best wishes! :)"

Smyths says customers who have pre-ordered the console will have it by the 18th of December.

In a notice displayed on the Smyths website for the €499.99 new gaming console, the toy store are no longer accepting pre-orders and tell customers:

“Thank you to everyone who has placed a pre-order. All stock is now allocated. Pre-orders will be fulfilled by December 18th”.

New stock is expected in “January 2021”, the statement adds.

Harvey Norman

Harvey Norman told customers that there will be no restocks of the consoles before 2021.

They tweeted: "We can advise we are currently sold out of the PS5.

"We are hoping to receive more stock in the new year.

"Please keep an eye on our social media and website for further updates."

Game Stop

Gamestop have confirmed they have more PS5s coming in but they will be given to customers who already pre-purchased them.

GameStop said: "PS5 Stock Update: Further stock of PS5 consoles have been made available.

"We will use them to satisfy consumers who have already pre-ordered by advancing them in the queue.

"All consumers will be contacted by email or text message with an order update."

This week, Argos in the UK confirmed that it will not be getting any more PlayStation 5 consoles until 2021.

A notice on its website reads: “Sorry, PlayStation 5 is currently unavailable. We will not have any further stock for the rest of 2020.”

Currys PC World has also sold out of consoles, simply stating that it is ‘working tirelessly to secure more stock.’

Sony boss Jim Ryan has also confirmed that ‘absolutely everything is sold.’

Speaking to TASS News Agency, he said: “Everything is sold. Absolutely everything is sold.

“I’ve spent much of the last year trying to be sure that we can generate enough demand for the product. And now in terms of my executive bandwidth I’m spending a lot more time on trying to increase supply to meet that demand.”
