£1.7m Scottish Premiership star emerges as fresh Celtic transfer candidate

Celtic are reportedly interested in Will Ferry (Image: Shutterstock)

Dundee United star Will Ferry is on Celtic’s radar as the Scottish champions seek to bolster their options at left-back, according to a new report.

The Scottish Premiership champions have missed out on the permanent signing of Uruguayan defender Marcelo Saracchi, who impressed on loan last season – as confirmed by the player on Instagram.

Now, according to The Courier, Celtic remain keen to secure competition for Scotland international Kieran Tierney, with Ferry among the targets being considered.

Per the source, Parkhead scout Tosh McKinlay has watched the Ireland international in person on several occasions, including his eye-catching display in United’s 3-0 win over Dundee in March, during which he scored two and teed up the other.

Ferry’s standout showing in United’s 2-0 triumph over Celtic at Tannadice in March has also been noted in Glasgow’s east end.

No official approach has yet been made – Celtic have also been credited with an interest in AEK Athens defender James Penrice – but United remain braced for bids given Ferry’s superb two seasons at Tannadice.

The Tangerines recently accepted a £1.7 million bid for Ferry, but the player opted to turn down a move to the middling Czech side in question.
