PS Plus January 2023 games include a stellar line-up for Star Wars and Fallout fans

From January 3, PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers will be able to add Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76, and Axiom Verge 2 to their collection.

Sony announced January’s PS Plus line-up over on the PlayStation Blog, and it looks like a stellar month for PlayStation fans. First up, there’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order , available for both PS4 and PS5 , which is probably the best Star Wars game since Knights of the Old Republic.

This third-person action-adventure with souls-like combat, is set after the events of Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. You take on the role of Cal Kestis, a Jedi padawan that survived Anakin's youngling cull and is now working as a scrap merchant in hiding on a remote industrial planet. After he is forced to use his powers to save a co-worker from falling to their death, Cal’s cover is blown and the wheels are set in motion for a galaxy-spanning adventure as he seeks to rebuild the fallen order.

This is, of course, a cynical ploy to get you to buy Star Wars Jedi: Survivor when it launches on March 17, 2023 – but I don’t mind, mainly because the game is so good.

The same can’t be said for Fallout 76 , which is, well, it’s fine. I guess. It's a lot better than it was, or so I’ve heard. But that’s a bar you can trip over. The latest game in Bethesda’s long-running post-apocalyptic series, this online multiplayer prequel to the venerated RPG series sees players fight for resources and try and start a new life in bombed-out remains of West Virginia.

This is arguably the worst of the bunch this month as it’s only the PS4 version, there’s no crossplay with PC or Xbox , and if you have a PS5 it only runs at a locked 30FPS. If you have an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S , you're better off grabbing it on Xbox Game Pass .

Finally, we have Axiom Verge 2 for PS4 and PS5. Initially released for PC and Nintendo Switch last year, it's set in the same world as uh, Axiom Verge, but with all-new everything. You take on the role of Indra Chaudhari, a billionaire searching for her missing daughter that embarks on a mind-bending adventure set across two worlds.

If it’s half as good as the first Axiom Verge, I. AM. IN. If you’re looking for something to scratch a similar itch as the Metroid Dread you should definitely check it out.

The games to be added to the buffet service for PS Plus Extra and PS Premium members in January are yet to be announced. In the meantime, PlayStation Plus subscribers on all tiers have until Monday, January 2 to get Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Biomutant, and Divine Knockout before they leave the service.
