Prue Leith says rumoured £200,000 Bake Off role is easiest job she's ever had

Prue Leith says it was easy getting rich from the Great British Bake Off .

In fact, the 79-year-old made so much dough that she now employs someone to test-drive all her recipes.

Experienced Prue says the C4 gig is the most straight forward she has had in her life - and the money comes in very handy.

Chatting on the Come for Supper podcast, she opened up about cashing in on the show's popularity.

It is rumoured she earns £200,000 per series - but it's her cookbooks which really bring home the bacon.

She was quizzed about getting help with her books and said: “I do now because I can afford it, thanks to Bake Off.

She saids some interesting things about Sandy and Noel (PA)

"I now have somebody who tests recipes for me.

"It's really great because in writing recipe books you have to test things over and over again and it takes ages.”

The TV star added: “I don’t say this too loudly so they want to drop my salary, but the fact is, it is the easiest job I’ve ever done. I don’t have to write a script, I don’t have to learn any lines, I don’t have to rehearse anything, I don’t have to make up jokes like Sandy and Noel do."

“All I have to do is walk on, eat cake, say what I think, walk off and get paid. What is wrong with that?”

She recently caused a stir by saying school packed lunches should be banned.

Prue told Good Morning Britain hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid that kids should have their meals in school with healthy options provided.

But viewers were divided over her comments, with many hitting out at the baker for calling for a ban on packed lunches.
