Provincial Deputy Governor Probed for Corruption

What’s new: Zhang Zhinan, a deputy governor of Southeast China’s Fujian province, has been placed under investigation for “serious disciplinary violations,” the Communist Party's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced (link in Chinese) on Sunday.

Background: Zhang, a 59-year-old Fujian native, became this year's first provincial-level official caught up in the anti-corruption campaign launched by President Xi Jinping in 2013 to crack down on both “tigers and flies” within the Communist Party.

The announcement came a day after the vice governor’s latest public appearance via a video conference organized by the provincial government on Saturday, according to the official Fujian Daily.
