PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Providence police made three more arrests Saturday night in the Carolina Avenue shooting that left nine people injured and is described as the city's largest single shooting incident.
A 17-year-old juvenile; David Carides, 23; and Daniel Carides, 26, were arrested Saturday at 34 Dorchester Ave., a known gang hangout, according to Providence police Commander Thomas Verdi.
Seven young men have now been charged after two groups began firing on each other May 13 at 87 Carolina Ave., in the City's Washington Park neighborhood.
Last Monday, the police charged four men who authorities alleged touched off the shootout by rival gang factions.
Ricardo Cosme Tejada and Jordany Britto, both 20, Reynaldo Rivera, 19, and George Rios, 18, each face charges of assault with a deadly weapon, using a firearm while committing a crime of violence, conspiracy, and using a pistol without a license.
Police have said the four men jumped out of a pickup truck outside 87 Carolina Ave. and began firing pistols at people assembled on the porch and in front of the house.
At least two people on the porch began firing back, police alleged, and more than 50 rounds were fired.
Eight people were wounded, including a woman. The four men were arraigned last Monday, one from his bed in Rhode Island Hospital. A ninth victim was also injured in the incident but not from a bullet. All are expected to recover.
Verdi said the three new people most recently charged were expected to be arraigned today before a bail commissioner and taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions.
