Proud Newcastle mam gets emotional on This Morning over daughter's new job

A Newcastle mam struggled to hold in her emotion as she rang This Morning full of pride for her daughter getting her dream job after a tough year.

Karen was one of the callers on Thursday's phone-in which focused on people having reason to celebrate in these still very uncertain times, with the nation set for at least another six weeks of lockdown.

First up was Jill who revealed her delight at having eye surgery that allowed her to see properly for the first time in years and getting her corovirus vaccine and she was followed by Karen who wanted to share her delight at daughter Jessica securing a job after struggling to find employment since graduating from Newcastle University last summer.

Karen told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: "I'm over the moon and I'm so proud of my daughter.

"She graduated from her Masters in Medicinal Chemistry from Newcastle in June; but with all the pandemic she didn't get her graduation....sorry I'm getting emotional here!

Trying to keep composure Karen continued: "She's hunted for jobs since June and she didn't get anything. She was applying and applying and we said 'we'll have a break over Christmas, get Christmas out of the way and then start again'.

"So she applied for a job and she got it!"

Revealing to a thrilled Phillip and Holly that Jessica had found work at a laboratory in Durham, Karen added: "It's what she always wanted to do. She's very hands on so it's an ideal job for her; I'm so proud."

A delighted Karen revealed she had another child ready to graduate this year, before saying she was pleased to hear Jill's good news and also wishing Phillip daughter's Ruby happy birthday.

This led Holly to tell her: "You're the nicest person!"
