Proud Callum Davidson emphasises importance of building on draw with Celtic

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson has emphasised the importance of building on Sunday’s Celtic performance.

The Perth boss has said there is little point in picking up a hard-earned draw if it is not followed up with further positive results.

Davidson was thrilled with the display in Glasgow as Saints moved their unbeaten run to 11 games.

“There is no point in coming to Parkhead and getting a point then losing the next couple,” Davidson said. “It’s really important we go in with that mindset.

“I said to them after the game that the next three games coming up are really important to the season. I’d like to turn the draws into wins.

“That will be the next step but I’m delighted with the players and am not going to fault them for their effort and attitude.”

Chris Kane had nudged Saints into a 79th minute lead before Celtic hit back shortly after.

Davidson said: “If you asked me before if I’d take a point, I’d snap your hand off. I thought the boys were fantastic and applied themselves really well.

“I wish Kano had scored in the 89th minute! It might have given us a better chance to win the game.

“It is difficult coming on early in a game but I’m delighted for Kano to get the goal.”

On Celtic’s leveller, a looping header from Mohamed Elyounoussi, Davidson added: “You could either say it was an absolutely fantastic header or a little bit fortunate.

“When you come to these places you need a little bit of luck. We didn’t quite get it at the end.”

Michael O’Halloran was forced off injured before the half hour mark.

Providing an update, Davidson said: “Michael got studs on the side of his hip. His hip seized up.

“He has massive stud marks and a bit of swelling so we’ll look at that this week.”
