Two men from the Proud Boys, a US white male supremacist gang, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in regards to a brawl that took place in Manhattan in October 2018.
As part of their plea deal, Jake Freijo and Eryk Kaczynski were sentenced to five days of community service. Six other Proud Boy members charged for the fight also pleaded guilty and are awaiting their sentencing.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit organisation monitoring extremism in the United States, have designated the Proud Boys as a hate group.
The fight broke out after Gavin McInnes, the founder of the Proud Boys gang, gave a speech at the Metropolitan Republican Club in Manhattan.
The CCTV footage shows the Proud Boys gang charging at people protesting Mr McInnes’ speaking engagement and attacking them.
Prosecutors argued for the harshest sentence possible, one year in jail, against two Proud Boys: John Kinsman and Maxwell Hare.
Kinsman and Hare pleaded guilty to attempted assault and second-degree rioting charges. Prosecutors described Kinsman, who is seen in the video footage wearing a red cap, as the “single most vicious” member of the Proud Boys.
