The first prototypes of the new electric van being launched by the London Electric Vehicle Company have rolled off the production lines in Coventry.
The prototypes are being built on the same production line as the latest version of the company's iconic London taxi - the TX.
The prototypes will be deployed as test vehicles and undergo a strict development and homologation programme including hot and cold climate testing, durability and crash testing.
The new van is set to make its debut at this year’s Commercial Vehicle show in April.
LEVC’s electric van is constructed using the same lightweight aluminium architecture as its TX electric taxi.
It also boasts the same degree of manoeuvrability with a turning circle of just 10.1m.
Joerg Hofmann, CEO of LEVC, said: “Prototype stage is an important milestone in our new electric van’s development process as we stay on track towards full production in Q4.
“This new van satisfies the growing demand zero-emissions vehicles in the 1-tonne segment, currently dominated by diesel products, and combines this with extended mileage capability to totally eliminate any range-anxiety.
“It’s an intelligent green mobility solution for any commercial vehicle operator.”
The new van uses the e-City range extender technology used in the TX taxi, which combines electric and petrol power.
LEVC’s new van will offer 80 miles of emissions free driving and an extended electrically driven total range of over 370 miles.
LEVC is owned by Chinese car giant Geely, which also owns Volvo.
