Protests outside BBC Radio Merseyside HQ in Liverpool over Libya leader, Col Muammar Gaddafi (GALLERY)

PROTESTORS in Liverpool pleaded with the British media to stand up against the tyrannical reign of Libyan leader, Col Muammar Gaddafi.

Demonstrators from Libya, Palestine and Egypt gathered opposite the BBC Merseyside building on Hanover Street to peacefully appeal for more government and media intervention in Libya, where reporting restrictions heavily apply.

Their protest comes after a weekend of protests for democracy and increasing violence in the capital, Tripoli, and Eastern areas of Libya.

Mustafa Zentani, 44, who is from Libya and now lives in Aigburth said: “Gaddafi is killing our people – everyone from young to old.

"We want to see action from the government and the British media against this.

"My mum, my sisters, my brothers, everyone is out there and they are all very scared.”

A mum-of-five, originally from Libya and now living in Old Swan said: “Innocent people are dying.

"We have heard how a one-year-old baby was shot down as his mother held him in her arms.

"The hospitals are full and schools are now being used to treat people, but they don’t have the equipment they need.

"We would like the British media to show people the truth, so help can be given.”
