Protests across Jaisalmer over Taliban cricket club

JAISALMER: There were protests across Jaisalmer over a Taliban cricket team that took part in a match at Jaisurna on Monday.

Hindu organisations on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the district collector and the SP demanding action against people who have ‘Talibani thinking’.

The Alladin Khan Memorial Cricket tournament has been caught in controversy after one of the teams taking part in the tournament was named after Taliban.

The furore started on the social media and the organisers were trolled.

Following this, the organisers dropped the team and apologised.

Bajrang Dal convener Lalu Singh Sodha said that a memorandum was submitted to the district collector and the SP. Sodha said that Jaisalmer has always been a sensitive place and from time to time anti-national activities keep taking place.

The memorandum said that Taliban outfit is doing inhuman acts and should be condemned. A few anti-social elements in the country support the terrorist ideology. With this act, it appears that efforts are being made to set up Taliban in India.

VHP district secretary Pawan Vaishnav said that there is resentment in people of Jaisalmer over this incident. There is a need for strong action immediately so that such resentment does not flare up. He said it is a planned strategy. They wanted to see the reaction on this name. Anti- social elements are trying to disturb the peace in Jaisalmer.

Vaishnav said that all members of Taliban club, the organising committee and their advisors should be strictly quizzed and their background should be verified as to which organisations are supporting them. Strict action should be taken against them.
